BIO
To say that Ian is passionate about real estate is an understatement. However, it all began a long time before he held a Real Estate License. With a 20 year background in finance, based in the London trading rooms as a risk manager, sales, and portfolio manager, Ian was able to travel to many parts of the world. This gave him an innate ability to understand different cultures and customs which has lead Ian to be able to talk to just about anyone. His passion for Real Estate started in the late 1990s when he started to investigate buying foreclosed homes at auction rooms in the United Kingdom. Shortly after, with several UK business partners, he founded a property rehab, flip, and investment company in Manchester that is still in business today. The bug grew stronger and after moving with his family to Barrie, Canada in 2003 Ian initiated the purchase of multi-family homes in the Barrie area before gaining his real estate license in Jan 2006. In all honesty, the agent he was working with while he was looking for multi-family homes suggested that if he gained his real estate license he could look at as much real estate as he wanted. Of course, Ian isn't the kind of guy that just sits back and settles for looking at a few homes, and in his first 10 months as a Realtor gained recognition from Royal LePage as a Master Sales Agent. Fast forward a few years and gaining a great reputation he grew so busy that his wife Caroline was brought into the business to help out. The Hocking Homes Team was born and with the addition of Natasha their personal assistant, the business grew again. Achieving the Diamond award two years in a row at Royal LePage, and putting Ian and Caroline in the top 3% of all Realtor within the province it was time for a change. Ian gained his broker's license in 2012.
After 7 great years at Royal LePage Ian was offered the position as the Broker of Record at a new Keller Williams office in Barrie. Using the leverage of the Keller Williams systems and brand, Ian and Caroline grew their business with the addition of several agents. Ian also started BREIF, the Barrie Real Estate Investment Forum that meets quarterly with an aim to increase knowledge among would be an experienced real estate investors. In the spirit of sharing, members are encouraged to help each other grow and learn. Ian is also a founding member of a local group of business professionals called Professionals in Partnership, also founded on the basis of local businesses helping each other profit by promoting each other's businesses.
Most recently Ian has accepted a position as the vice-chair of Christmas Cheer and is actively helping that organization with its charitable causes.
For fun, Ian loves to golf (When he gets time), and is partial to nice wine (That's a hint to anyone reading this
) Ian is also learning to fly having taken inspiration from his son James whose career choice is as a commercial pilot. Ian is married to Caroline and they have three great children, Christopher, James, and Elizabeth. Ian loves to talk about all things real estate and half the time the issue going to be to get him to stop talking! With his background in finance and risk management, it's not surprising that investment real estate forms a keen interest and he is always willing to help a new investor gain some knowledge to lead towards financial freedom. Future ambitions include owning his own real estate brokerage, teaching would be Realtors, and inspiring people to seek out passive income for the future.
